On Shyness

hitrecordjoe:

themadeshop:

I was also a shy child. Apparently my mother commented on this to her own mother and my grandmother said “I think Marke enjoys his own company.”

Which was true — I found myself fascinating and other people less so. I had (and still have) long and elaborate and surprisingly literal conversations and even arguments with myself on a wide variety of topics both interesting and mundane. (e.g. interesting = internal meeting between my toothpaste marketing team; mundane = whether god exists or not).

And now my “shyness” with any given person seems to be directly proportional to whether conversation with them is more, or less, interesting than being by myself.
